The Vault Taphouse / Kobold Tasting Room is a natural progression, born out of our love of beer and our love of community.
After retiring from 26 years as an Air Traffic Controller and moving to Bend, Steve unleashed his creative side and started home brewing. Discovering he had a knack for making very drinkable beer (as our neighbors on 3rd Street would say) Steve designed and built a two barrel, nano-brewery on his property in Bend’s westside. He started Kobold Brewing in 2015 and turned his small brewery into a successful and busy operation.
Steve sold Kobold beer all over Bend and Redmond, delivering it out of the back of his truck. Kobold Brewing takes part in most local brewfests and enters local competitions and events. At Kobold Breweing, we think it’s important to get constant feedback from fellow brewers, judges and friends in order to create the best beer possible.
After more than a year of selling Kobold beer one keg at a time, Steve and Heather decided it was time for a change and found an amazing opportunity in Redmond. They purchased a building downtown in 2016 and shortly after got the ball rolling for the new taphouse, which opened in July of 2017. Steve continued to brew beer on his system in Bend, cranking out award winning beer, but after less than a year with the new taphouse, realized he needed a bigger system and more production.
In March of 2018, Kobold Brewing purchased an industrial space in Redmond and is in the process of constructing a 10 barrel brew house. Along with more production and the ability to provide our customers with their favorite beer, we will hopefully be able to get back in to distribution and some day have the time to bottle some of our barrel aged beers. Stay tuned!
Meanwhile, the vision for The Vault Taphouse continues to be a place where people can enjoy the Kobold line up of beers in one place or grab another outstanding ale. We hope we created a space where people could come together in a great setting, grab some excellent food, and enjoy the awesome outdoor area we created in what is becoming a vibrant downtown Redmond. We hope we’ve achieved this vision and are excited to share it with beer lovers and what we hope is our new family in Redmond.
